River Cooperation
|
 |
Bradwood Landing is working cooperatively
with other Columbia River Maritime stakeholders to ensure that
ships calling at Bradwood
Landing have minimal impact on other river users.
- An Approved Safety Navigation Plan
All ships calling at Bradwood Landing are subject to strict
safety procedures and will operate under regulations
of the U.S. Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland
Security. Specifically, the U. S Coast Guard, in consultation
with Bradwood Landing, the Columbia River Bar and River
pilots, local authorities and fishermen, is developing
a detailed Waterway Suitability Analysis as described
in NVIC-05-05. Under the direction
of the U.S. Coast Guard, appropriate procedures will
be established for LNG ships transiting the Columbia
River to ensure safe
river navigation in a manner that minimizes impacts on
regular river users. Ship arrivals at Bradwood Landing
will be coordinated to avoid peak river traffic periods,
such as during the Buoy 10 fisheries.
- Limiting Impacts
Bradwood Landing is sensitive to the needs of existing river traffic and uses and will work to manage ship arrivals to avoid peak river usage periods, such as the Buoy 10 fisheries. Ships will travel at 10-12 knots, approximately 12-14 miles per hour, passing points on shore quickly and with minimal disruption.
- Working with Fishermen, Ports
Both in Oregon and Washington, Bradwood Landing is working with Columbia River gill net and sport fishermen to ensure that Bradwood Landing is compatible with fishing operations. In addition, Bradwood Landing is communicating with other Columbia River maritime organizations and major ports to discuss how Bradwood Landing can work cooperatively and benefit all river users and interests.
- New Tugs, More Safety
Tugs operating at Bradwood Landing will be the largest and most powerful on the Columbia River and will employ
state of the art navigation and vessel assist systems. When
the tugs are not in use for Bradwood Landing, they will
be available to assist other maritime users enhancing
maritime safety throughout the region.
